Plainfield North High School Assistant Principal Darnell Weathersby has published his first children’s book, “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made,” which is the first book in The Adventures of Donald the Knight Series.
“Fearfully and Wonderfully Made” is one of a series of three books about an African American male in elementary school.
The main character, Donald the Knight, is a third grader attempting to navigate low self-esteem.
The goal of the book series is to provide parents with a unique resource for talking to their children about self-esteem and identity.
“Being an educator and a parent myself, I’m daily reminded of the pressure our children go through attempting to navigate our culture,” Weathersby said.
The 36-page book is geared toward kindergarten through third graders.
“The book is a great resource for parents to read aloud with their younger children while also providing thought provoking reflection questions for parents and older students,” Weathersby said.
Weathersby is in his seventh year serving as an administrator at PNHS and 19th year in education.
Weathersby hopes the children’s book series will provide a transformative resource for all District 202 families and beyond.
“No longer do we have to be intimidated by the touchy conversations of self-esteem and identity,” Weathersby said.
The first book, “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made,” will be available at noon on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 on Amazon and at https://www.theleadonemovement.com/.
