Speakers to share personal stories, education on drug use, misuse, dependence

Plainfield – District 202 will share information about drug use, misuse, and dependence on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the auditorium at Plainfield South High School, 7800 Caton Farm Road, Plainfield.

This free program, “Drug Use, Drug Misuse, and Drug Dependence: What’s the Difference?”  is presented by District 202’s Plainfield Parent Community Network.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the program will start at 6:30 p.m.

There will be a resource fair at 6 p.m.

Four people will share their personal stories and professional advice about drug use, misuse, and dependence:

• Connie Dewall, Program Manager, Will County Substance Use Initiatives
• Mary Ellen Miller, a retired social worker with District 202
• Anthony Thompson and Rob Findlay, Peer Support Specialists, Will County State’s Attorney’s Office

 Adults 18 and older also can tour the Hidden in Plain Sight trailer presented by HERO (Heroin Epidemic Relief Organization.)

The trailer shows a teenager’s bedroom with seemingly ordinary items in plain sight that can hide drugs or alcohol.

The trailer will be open at 5:30 p.m. and reopen after the presentation.

The program will be available in English and Spanish and streamed live. It will also be recorded and posted to the PPCN website at https://plainfieldpcn.org/  

District 202 social workers, special education administrators and counselors formed the PPCN in fall 2016 to support parents with common parenting needs. A committee comprising district administrators, principals, counselors, and community members oversees the PPCN.
